First of all, we are finally getting this volunteer-coordination-thing down to a science...or at least we're making progress! It has become apparent that if we just list our needs and don't make it too hard, people with talent and passion in those areas will appear! Yay! We try not to step on each other's toes and we are starting to use high-tech gadgets like telephones and computers to communicate, which means that if an idea pops into your head or you think you might be able to do something to help, just let us know! This club and this show is a lot of fun, and together we can share The American Saddlebred with those around us, building great kids, and passing on the history and community that we have been so fortunate to inherit.
At the moment, we could really use help with "selling" sponsorships. If you have friends in high places, or patronize (or own) businesses that recognize the benefit of getting their name in front of a few hundred horse afficionados, then drop us a line! Another area where we could still use a few hands is in the hospitality department. Becky Taggart is spearheading the Old-fashioned Sunday Fried Chicken "Picnic," but she probably needs help hauling in the food and setting it up. We are also looking for a Salsa Guru for our Friday Afternoon Salsa Bar, and the Early Bird Breakfasts are being coordinated by Donna Barnes, but she would love some helpers, too.
Outside the show, Ginny Beth Norton recently stepped-up and said she would help coordinate Saddlebred participation in local trail rides, but we really need another person or two to gather up some of us ASB-lovers and hit the streets in other ways. We've considered parades, and maybe touting the Civil War Horse to all of these proud Southerners, as well as visiting 4-H clubs, nursing homes, and getting our gorgeous horses in the news every once in awhile. These glorious horses are just too special for folks not to know about!
